Can Health Insurance Pay For Assisted Living Expenses?

If you're thinking about entering an assisted living facility and wondering whether your health insurance will pay for assisted living it is a question that many people have.

Assisted living is expensive for most folks and the costs can average $3200. a month.  Most people do not have the funds available to pay for assisted living and look to Medicare, Medicaid and their health insurance policy and other insurance policies.

The facts are that neither Medicare nor any health insurance policies that I know of will pay for assisted living HOWEVER there is another insurance policy to consider. But first Medicaid may cover some services in some facilities or assisted living centers in some states. You can check with your state to see if Medicaid will cover any part of assisted living care.

Now what you want to check is long term care insurance. If you have it already then it may pay for it considering how long you have had it. That will be the key factor. I doubt that you would be able to buy long term care insurance and then immediately sign up for an assisted living center.

I know a health director for an assisted living facility and she has worked in many and MOST of the residents there, as they're called, did not have an insurance policy that paid for their expenses. Most of them are paying out of their pocket.
